Well, this post starts off with some sad news - our chickens are dead (well, most of them). They were getting a bit loud, especially the guineas and the roosters. (out of 16 chickens we ended up with 8 roosters - I know 50% chance huh! but come on! Roosters are so stinkin' loud and mean!) Anyway, like I said - they were getting loud and roaming into our neighbors yard so we decided to move their coop to the back of our property. There's a big field back there and a nice tree they could play in. So, we moved them back there and they really enjoyed roaming "free". Well - we actually UNKNOWINGLY sent them to their death . . . a few days later all we had left was the 5 guineas and one chicken. Yep! Something got our chickens! They took the bodies - we just found lots of clumps of feathers ALL over the place. . . Our guesses are coyotes or a dog.
Well, the kids were sad about this and had their own guesses of what ate the chickens. One day, the kids came running in to tell me that they saw a coyote! I asked them to take me out and show me where they saw it. "It was drinking from the chicken's water" said Alma. So, they took me by the chicken coop, and we walked over to the chickens water tub. (It's full of muddy water and a few chicken feathers from the "struggles") As we're looking in the water, Alma says - in his most serious Alma Detective voice - "Yup, those are coyote feathers"
Children are such a blessing! Such great entertainment!
